Qualitaet des Englischen English translations |
By Beverly Zumbühl, Wordswork I agree with correspondents 1 & 2 (1) that English translations are often of poor quality. As a translator and copyeditor, I sometimes cringe at the things I read knowing how easy it would have been to fix them (some of them!). But the bottom line is always money. Budgets do not include translation and proofreading, and not just at ETHlife. Perpetuating a poor image in English does not fit with the visions and goals stated for the future of ETH, but until funds are also provided for this aspect of ETH's international 'corporate' image, the quality will continue to suffer. | ||||
